Buddy and Porky Pet Health – Watching Cat Videos Can Be Good For You

Porky and Buddy

Dear Readers,
Usually when we start a column out like that, it’s because something dire is about to happen somewhere and we need your help to prevent it. But not this time. Today we have happy news!

A recent survey by the Indiana University Media School of 7000 people (both cat people and dog people) found that; after watching online cat videos they were more energetic and had fewer negative emotions such as anxiety or sadness, that they often watched them at work or while studying and that that the pleasure from watching the videos outweighed any guilt about procrastinating.

75 percent of these “cat video slackers” were not actually looking for cat videos, they just happened upon them.

According to Gail Myick, an Indiana University Assistant Professor and the lead researcher, “The emotional payoff may actually help people take on tough tasks afterward.”

We have several thoughts about this.

From a global perspective, there were two million cat video posted on YouTube in 2014 alone with 26 billion views.

Shouldn’t we all be happier?

From an individual perspective, now you can claim that you use cat videos as a kind of low-cost therapy, an especially good explanation for your boss.

And from an animal welfare perspective, and better yet, you can adopt a cat and have your own 24/7 cat video and therapy on demand.

What could be nicer than that?
