A grand opening is scheduled for Dec. 15 at the Shapiro Motors 410 W. First St. location.

“I am extremely excited about teaming up with Todd Shapiro and Shapiro Motors, which brings together two Oswego dealerships that have served Central New York for more than eight decades,” Rich Burritt, president, said. “The entire workforce of employees at Shapiro will stay in place and the new entity, Burritt Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, will continue to operate from the 410 W. First St. location.”

“Within the next two years, we will build a new, state-of-the-art dealership next to Burritt Motors, 340 Route 104 East. During this period, I anticipate that we will double the workforce for Burritt Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram and the growth in this location will create a Burritt Superstore,” he continued. “In addition, we will enhance the customer service experience while welcoming new customers. We also want to thank the many customers served by both dealerships for more than 140 years. Our mission is to provide every customer with unparalleled sales and service.”

Shapiro said, “This brings together two dealerships with wonderful reputations for employee and customer satisfaction, exceptional service and repeat business. Both Burritt Motors and Shapiro have formed warm, lasting relationships with our customers and their families who have been coming back for generations.”

Burritt Motors’ history dates back to 1955 in Hannibal when Rich’s great-grandfather, Elmer O. Burritt, purchased a Chevrolet franchise that he operated until 1963.

To expand in a larger market, Rich’s grandfather, Richard, purchased the assets of a Chevrolet dealership that had been located on Oswego’s East Third Street.

About a year later, he built the present dealership on Route 104, which underwent a $2.5 million expansion and renovation in 2013.

Rich succeeds his father, Chris, who ran the business for the past 38 years.

The dealership celebrates its 62nd anniversary this year and recently won General Motors’ 2016 Mark of Excellence Award for “unsurpassed performance and customer satisfaction.”

Leon Shapiro Motor Sales has been a family run business for more than 80 years.

In addition to selling new and pre-owned Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles, the business has a full-service center.
