“Early detection is the best protection,” said Handville.  “The Cancer Services Program Partnership offers free cancer screenings for individuals 40 to 64 who are uninsured or underinsured. These screenings can save lives, and there is no reason for anyone not to have them.”

In an effort to help spread the word about the CSPP Handville does a number of community outreach programs.

Currently she is planning to have a presence at Bingo nights throughout Oswego County where she will be able to visit with players and distribute information and educate them about the screenings that are available and how they can take advantage of them.

“I am inviting civic groups, churches, and other organizations who host Bingo nights to join us in our fight against cancer and provide me with the opportunity to have a display at their Bingo hall. As an extra incentive, all players who stop by for information while I am there can sign up for a free drawing to win a $50 Wal-Mart gift card. I am looking forward to visiting as many Bingo nights as possible and spreading the word about the importance of receiving regular cancer screenings,” said Handville.

Screenings available through OCO’s Cancer Services Program Partnership include: clinical breast exams, mammograms, pap/pelvic exams, and colorectal cancer screenings for men and women.
