OSWEGO, NY – In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Oswego County Opportunities Cancer Services Program has partnered with health providers throughout Oswego County to raise awareness of breast cancer and encourage community members to receive the cancer screenings they need.

Carolyn Handville, coordinator for the OCO Cancer Services Program, has made appearances throughout the county disseminating information on the free clinical breast exams, mammograms and other free cancer screenings that are offered through OCO’s Cancer Services Program.
“Our goal continues to be to raise awareness and register eligible community members who are both uninsured and between 40 and 64 years of age into the program to obtain their free screenings. October provides an added opportunity for the Cancer Services Program to promote the services offered through the program while everyone is thinking about breast cancer and to support the many community members in Oswego County that have been affected by this disease,” said Handville.
The highlight of the Cancer Services Program’s efforts to raise awareness of breast cancer will take place October 17 at OCO’s Reproductive Health Center in Fulton, 522 S. Fourth St., Fulton, when the community gathers to form the 6th Annual Human Pink Ribbon in Oswego County.
Community members are asked to get their pink on and help form the Human Pink Ribbon at 11:30 a.m. at the center.
“We’re excited about our 6th Annual Human Pink Ribbon,” said Handville. “Each year our ribbon has increased in size and we cannot wait to meet and greet participants this year! We expect this year’s Human Pink Ribbon to be the biggest yet!”
The Human Ribbon will be part of a morning long celebration beginning at 8:30 a.m. that will include free gifts, drawings, and refreshments.
There will also be face painting, crafts for sale and a variety of health related vendors including:
