FULTON, NY – As the Emergency Assistance Program at Catholic Charities of Oswego County prepares for the holiday season Helen Hoefer, director of Catholic Charities’ Community Services program invites you to experience the true meaning of the holidays by helping those less fortunate. Through Catholic Charities’ Adopt A Family program, caring businesses and individuals can help make this holiday season memorable for those in need.

“With the increase in the number of families in need, and the substantial budget cuts that we’ve experienced in the past year, this holiday season will be one of our most challenging,” said Hoefer. “I am anticipating a record amount of people in need and we are hoping to have as many families as possible adopted.”

Hoefer said that families who would like to be considered for adoption may apply, in person, at Catholic Charities’ food pantry, 365 W. First St. Families wishing to apply must provide proof of residency.  Applications will be accepted Oct. 17 through Nov. 18.

“Those who have chosen to Adopt A Family in the past have said that it is truly a rewarding experience to share their blessings with others. It is a wonderful program that puts a smile on a child’s face and a tear of appreciation in a parent’s eye.  I encourage anyone who is able to experience the true meaning of the holidays and Adopt A Family through Catholic Charities,” added Hoefer.

Those wishing to Adopt A Family may provide gifts for the family, a grocery store gift card or non-perishable food for a holiday meal, or both if they desire. They may also specify what family composite they wish to provide for such as number of children, ages of children, senior citizen, etc. Catholic Charities will be accepting requests from companies, organizations or individuals that would like to Adopt A Family now through Dec. 1. For more information on Catholic Charities’ Adopt A Family program or to sign up to adopt a family, contact Hoefer at Catholic Charities of Oswego County, 315-598-3980, ext. 250.

Catholic Charities of Oswego County serves all people in need regardless of their religious affiliation.
