Catholic Charities Thrift Store, ‘Pauline’s Closet’ Re-Opens Jan. 25 In New, Larger Space

FULTON, NY – Catholic Charities of Oswego County’s (CCOC) thrift store, Pauline’s Closet, will re-open from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, following a relocation within the agency’s offices at 808 W. Broadway, said CCOC Executive Director Mary-Margaret Pekow.

“We recently acquired a new tenant for our building who will be located in the space where the thrift store was,” Pekow said. “We closed the store in late December so we could move all merchandise and donations to a new larger space adjacent to the original location in our building.  This new space will make it easier to stock and manage the store and give patrons a more spacious area in which to shop. Our thrift store is always busy helping individuals with everything from clothing to household items. When we host free special events, the thrift store is one of the most popular resources we offer them.

“I want to  thank everyone who has donated items for our thrift store, which helps so many in our community, but I also wanted to stress that there are some items we cannot accept, or that the condition of some items makes them unusable in our store.

Recently, we have had to make a number of trips to the local landfill to dispose of a  large number of items that we cannot offer for sale.

“We prefer items that are ‘gently used’ or new to offer to our customers. We cannot accept, however, clothing or textiles that are soiled, stained or ripped. We cannot accept used car seats, bicycle helmets, mattresses, used pillows or sheets, used underwear, baby furniture, toys, broken appliances or other broken items, used ball caps, or winter hats. The store will have some furniture items for sale, but will not accept furniture as donations. For more information or questions on the thrift store, please contact Barbara McCann at 315-591-1809, or [email protected].

“In addition, we always need more volunteers to help us at our thrift store and food pantry,  and I encourage anyone who wants to help us in our food pantry or  thrift store, to contact Barbara McCann (315) 598-3980, ext. 229. She can answer any questions about becoming a volunteer and would be happy to give a tour of our facility anyone interested in volunteering.”
