Celebrate America’s 250th at the Oswego County Fair July 1-5

OSWEGO COUNTY – Come to the 167th annual Oswego County Fair, Wednesday, July 1 through Sunday, July 5, to join the celebration of America’s 250th birthday!

In honor of the patriotic milestone, a youth reading of the Declaration of Independence is planned for noon on Saturday, July 4; followed by an old-fashioned dance from 1 to 3 p.m., sponsored by the Oswego County 250th Commission. Members of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) will also be on the grounds.

Each day features something for everyone – including food, entertainment, vendors, farm animals and more to ensure five days of endless fun!

The fair launches with the return of the parade at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, followed by fireworks at 9:30 p.m. Ontario Amusements will provide daily ride and game entertainment.

Enjoy live music and dancing, a talent show, truck and tractor pulls, an animal costume contest, demolition derbies, a classic car show, a comedy circus, an interactive bird sanctuary, mural painting, woodcarving demonstrations, a vintage tractor display, kids’ scavenger hunt and bike raffle and barrel racing.

In keeping with its origins as the Oswego County Agricultural Society, the event hosts animal shows every day, including horses, poultry, swine, beef and dairy cows, and sanctioned goat and rabbit contests.

Don’t forget to check out all the buildings on the fairgrounds to see a variety of visitor and historical displays, contest entries and ribbon-winners headed to the New York State Fair!

The fair closes out on Sunday with its first ever rodeo featuring bull riding, barrel and junior barrel racing and breakaway and team roping! Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for kids aged 3 to 12 years. Click on Broken B. Rodeo Co. to get your tickets ahead of the noon start time.

Other favorite initiatives are back, including free voucher packets for the first 100 youth (under age 18) in attendance each day and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County’s “Bucket of Junk” sculpture contest open to individuals and teams.

A variety of businesses will be at the fair, including vendors for shopping, delicious fair food, drinks and more. The Fair Café is newly remodeled with air conditioning and will be run by Huckleberry Café in Sandy Creek.

Free round-trip transportation is available thanks to state grant funding and a collaboration between the Oswego County Fair, Oswego County Mobility Management, the Oswego County ACCESS Program and NY Transportation taxi service. For details, click on the latest transportation announcement.

The Oswego County Fair runs from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, with buildings open until 7 p.m. On Sunday, the buildings will close at 5 p.m. Shows and activities are scheduled at various times throughout the fair.
