Race Raises $5700 For CSES Weekend Meals Program

Central Square Community Supports Meal Program For Students In Need

CENTRAL SQUARE, NY – Families and friends around the Central Square community came together in force to support a program offering weekend meals for Central Square School District students in need.

The Neilson family, owners of Country Glazed donut shop in Central Square, hosted the Jingle Bell Jog race-walk fundraiser to benefit the Central Square Essentials for Success Inc. Backpack Program.

Country Glazed provided free donuts, coffee and hot chocolate and more than 230 individuals participated in the Jingle Bell Jog.

This event raised more than $5,700 for the program, a not for profit that provides weekend meals for students registered in the Central Square School District. All funds raised will provide food for the program, the CSES team said.

In addition to the funds raised, community member Joan was granted a wish from Y94 and iHeart Radio. With the proceeds from that wish, she provided the program with $2,000 worth of food.

“It was a wonderful day, spent with fabulous people, in an outstanding community,” said Leane Stone of CSES. “CSES would like to thank everyone involved, together we are making a positive difference in our community.”

A sweet field trip

Country Glazed also gave its time to a Central Square elementary fourth-grade class recently as students visited to learn about the business.

Jennifer Watrous’s students were very involved in the Millard Hawk Elementary food drive for the CSES program.

Watrous said Alex and Emily, owners of Country Glazed, were students of hers years ago.

“It is amazing and heartwarming to be able to support my past students,” said Watrous. “We talked about how important it is to give back to the community you grew up in.”

The field trip supported the class’s math curriculum as the students graphed the class and grade level orders for donuts while also giving the kids a sweet treat from their teachers for the holiday.
