The Children’s Board of Oswego County recently met for the group’s first organizational meeting of the 2009-2010 year. President Chris Kearns announced the program initiatives including servicing families in need. Each year, the Children’s Board provides clothing, school supplies, holiday gifts, or other items to children of families who have been identified as in-need. The group partners with school district nurses and Catholic Charities to determine families who will receive support.

Other initiatives for the group will be continuation of their poison prevention efforts and tours of Oswego Hospital for grade school children. They will also continue to support cultural activities in conjunction with other organizations around the county including Arts in the Park. 2010 scholarships will be awarded to three graduating seniors from high schools within Oswego County who are bound for a formal continuing education program. To be eligible, seniors must use the competitive application form available through the Board and submit application materials by the spring 2010 deadline.

Additionally, the group engages in fund raising activities to support their program efforts. All monies raised remain local and support activities throughout Oswego County. The group is planning their annual sale of poinsettias which will kick off in November.

The group is looking forward to their annual open house meeting Tuesday, October 20 beginning at 6:00 at the Oswego City Library. Anyone interested in receiving information or becoming a member is welcome to attend the meeting.
