OSWEGO, NY – The Children’s Board of Oswego launched its 19th annual Poinsettia Sale during its Oct. 18 meeting.

Each year, members of the board sell and deliver an average of 900 of the popular Christmas potted plants.

Cindy Paine of Paine’s Greenhouse and Laura Suchnicki of the Children’s Board of Oswego discuss the annual poinsettia sale. This year, there will be red and pink plants. Orders are now being taken by board members. For more information, call Lori Costo at 342-6074.

The poinsettia sale is the largest fund raiser coordinated by the Children’s board netting the group at least $4,500 each year.

“It is a popular fundraiser,” said Lori Costo, event chairperson. “We have loyal supporters who anticipate the sale each year. The board’s goal is to raise $5,000 this year.”

Costo said the group will sell the plants in color choices of red, or pink.

They will be available in six and eight inch pots.

The plants will sell for $12 for the medium and $22 for the large.

Money generated from fundraisers like the poinsettia sale is used to conduct cultural programs in the community including Arts in the Park and to story telling by published authors.

The children’s board also sponsors children oriented tours through Oswego Hospital and distributes clothing and other items to identified families in need.

This year, they bring back Ballet for Young Audiences from New York City’s “The Nutcracker.”

The date for this holiday classic is Dec. 19 at 7 p.m., performed in the Ralph M Faust Theater at Oswego High School.

As with all children’s board functions, this will be free to the community.

They just ask that you bring a can good which will be donated to a local food pantry.

To place a poinsettia order, contact any of the board members or call Costo at 342-6074 or co-chairperson Laura Suchnicki at 342 – 8452.

Poinsettia orders will be taken until Nov. 18.

Delivery of the plants will be held on Dec. 4.

Donors can pick up their poinsettia plants at the Oswego Elks lodge on West Bridge Street between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. or large quantity orders can be delivered by members of the board.
