FULTONOswego County Opportunities (OCO) recently honored Case Manager for the Cancer Services Program of the North Country Christina Wallace with the agency’s prestigious Howard Wilcox Volunteer of the Year Award. Established in memory of a very special OCO volunteer, the Howard Wilcox Volunteer of the Year Award is presented annually to a volunteer that goes above and beyond in offering their time and talents to an OCO program.

As a long-time OCO volunteer, Wallace has been a powerhouse behind the scenes at agency events such as Bowl-A-Fun, Glow for OCO, and Giving Thanks, handling everything from setup and ticket sales to assisting with photography and cleanup.

“Christina is the definition of going above and beyond,” said OCO Executive Director Diane Cooper-Currier. “Christina has demonstrated unwavering dedication to OCO’s Fund Development initiatives for the past seven years, contributing an average of 50 volunteer hours annually. She consistently goes above and beyond, stepping into additional roles as needed and fostering a welcoming atmosphere that enhances OCO events.

This past year, Christina took on one of our most complex volunteer roles. Serving as food coordinator for our Giving Thanks event, she managed 17 food vendors with calm, grace, and incredible problem-solving. She also independently organized a “Paint and Sip” fundraiser through her private business, raising $400 for OCO and shining a light on our “There’s No Place Like Home” campaign. Christina brings passion, professionalism, and heart to everything she does. Her multifaceted contributions, through her professional role on our Cancer Services team, volunteer efforts, fundraising initiatives, and advocacy, exemplify the spirit of community service and make her an indispensable part of Oswego County Opportunities. It is a pleasure to recognize Christina a well-deserved Volunteer of the Year Award.”
