OSWEGO COUNTY – After a 2-year hiatus, the Cider Run is back! Due to some logistical issues, the popular race that is organized and sponsored by the Greater Mexico Chamber of Commerce, was canceled in 2024 and 2025. This year new Chamber member Reid Beadel is filling the role of race co-director with Chamber President; Steve Wisniewski.
The Cider Run is a 5k that takes participants through the beautiful village of Mexico. Not a runner? That’s ok! Walkers are welcome too. This is a wonderful community-focused event that attracts locals and out-of-towners. The race kicks off at 9am, September 13, 2026, but that’s not all that’s happening in this charming village that day. On the front lawn of the Mexico Academy and Central Schools high school, will be the annual Fall Festival, also sponsored by the Greater Mexico Chamber of Commerce. Attendees will find vendors, live music, a bounce house, food truck and more. It’s going to be a great day for all ages.
“Great communities are built on traditions and the people who keep them alive. I remember the Cider Run from when I was growing up here. I ran the Cider Run a couple years ago and loved the sense of community and giving back. I joined the Chamber of Commerce, because I wanted to help bring back this amazing event that inspires movement, strengthens community connections, and gives people something to look forward to each fall.” says Beadel.
This will be the 35th edition of the Cider Run. In 2024 it was cancelled due to road construction on much of the route that is used which was a safety issue. 2025 there were scheduling conflicts that got in the way. With this year’s fundraising goal of $5000, a portion of the proceeds from entry fees and donations will be donated to the Mexico Food Pantry and Operation Reindeer.
