Fairgrieve Elementary School welcomed incoming kindergarteners and their parents recently for an orientation day. The orientation day gave an opportunity for the kindergarten students to explore their classroom, meet their teacher and fellow classmates, and become familiar with their new school. Each student was asked to work on a fun project while parents completed paperwork and received information about the school year. In Lucy Hawthorne’s Kindergarten class, she introduced herself and a team of staff members that the students and parents will become familiar with throughout the school year and said after her many years working in education, “I’m old enough to know what I am doing and young enough to still love it.” Her goal throughout the school year is to help the students learn, grow, be happy, confident and love coming to school.

Following the introductions and presentations, parents were asked to report to the cafeteria to meet with Fairgrieve Principal Jean Ciesla for a brief discussion about school rules and procedures while the students stayed with their teachers for some more fun activities. Hawthorne’s class sang songs and gathered on the ABC reading rug for a favorite story of kids and parents alike, The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn.

Before calling it a day, students rejoined their parents in the cafeteria for their first ever Fairgrieve school lunch. Principal Jean Ciesla with an insider tip to the lunchroom’s best bets said to the students, “Our cafeteria staff makes the best grilled cheese sandwiches!”
