Closure for Rail Road Crossing Reconstruction on Route 49, Central Square

Submitted article

The New York State Department of Transportation announced that on Monday, September 8, Route 49 will be closed in both directions at the CSX Rail Road crossing in Central Square. This around-the-clock closure is necessary to facilitate CSX Rail Road’s reconstruction of that crossing.

Motorists can access the area to the west of the crossing via Route 11 and can access the area east of the crossing via I-81.

Motorists on I-81 who need to access Route 49 west of the crossing should use Exit 31 (Brewerton), then proceed west on Bartell Road to Route 11 northbound, then turn right onto Route 49 eastbound in Central Square.

This closure is anticipated to remain in place until 5 p.m. Thursday, September 11.

Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of the driver’s license.
