OSWEGO, NY – Lakeside Winterguard of Oswego County is sponsoring a Color Guard Workshop on Sunday, July 20 from noon to 4 p.m. at the McCrobie Building in Oswego.

The session is open to children in grades 1 through 6 as well as experienced guard members.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

The workshop is free and includes lunch provided by Cam’s NY Pizzeria in Oswego.

All participants are invited to join the Lakeside Winterguard in the Children’s Parade during Harborfest.

“Throughout the afternoon, participants will learn the parade routine and enjoy fun activities,” said Gary Smith of Lakeside Winterguard of Oswego County. “This is a really great way for kids to try twirling and get involved in color guard.”

Students in grades 1 through 3 will use swing flags, while those in grades 4 through 6 will twirl 5-foot flags.

Experienced guard members will work with 6-foot flags and rifles.

The Children’s Parade will feature the 2008 Harborfest theme, celebrating the Caribbean Island culture.

It is scheduled for July 25 at 11 a.m. and will march from West Park to Breitbeck Park in Oswego.

Following the children’s parade in Breitbeck Park, WOLF Radio Disney will be featuring Keke Palmer in concert, sponsored by Novelis.
