Community Eats Up Child Advocacy Center’s Chicken Wing Fest

OSWEGO, NY – Hundreds of community members filled the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center to enjoy some hot wings and cold brews at the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County’s fourth annual Chicken Wing Fest.

The event raised more than $22,000 to help support the agency’s efforts to combat and prevent child abuse in Oswego County.

“Our fourth annual Chicken Wing Fest was a tremendous success!  Thanks to our many supporters and the more than 700 community members who attended the event, we raised some much needed funds that will allow us to continue to provide services to victims of child abuse in Oswego County,” said CAC Executive Director Karrie Damm.

Contestants in this year’s competition included: Greene’s Ale House, Canale’s Restaurant, The Press Box, Jimmie James BBQ, Oswego Ancient Order of Hibernians, Kristen’s Kitchen at Battle Island, G& S Steamer’s, Garafolo’s Importing, The Red Sun Fire Roasting Co., Alex’s on the Water, Bistro 197, and the Office Tavern.

Greene’s Ale House, 104 W. Bridge St. in Oswego, defended its title and won the Golden Chicken Trophy for the third consecutive year.

Jimmie James BBQ, 5840 State Route 104 in Scriba, captured the plaque for Best Signature Wing and Kristen’s Kitchen at Battle Island won the award for Best Traditional Wings.

“I extend a sincere thank you to all of our chicken wing contestants, as well as Eagle Beverage for providing the brews, ciders and wines. They are all winners for supporting the Child Advocacy Center and making our fourth annual Chicken Wing Fest a success, said Damm.

A non-profit organization, the CAC works hand-in-hand with local law enforcement, prosecution, child protective services, medical providers, therapy providers, and victim advocacy professionals in Oswego County to protect and serve children that are victims of sexual and physical abuse.

In 2014, the CAC provided services for more than 425 children and families in Oswego County.
