OSWEGO, NY – On Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. in Breitbeck Park the Summer Sunset Concert Series continues with City Band directed by Donald Goodness.
“Italian Suite” by Syracuse composer Victor Malia will be featured.
Malia is a cellist with The Onondaga Civic Symphony Orchestra and has written several pieces for orchestra and concert band.
The “Italian Suite” consists of three movements; “When You’re Away” (A love song), “Tarantella” (The Spider Dance) and “Siciliana.”
Other highlights include medleys from two Broadway shows: “Selections from Wicked” and “Selections from Carousel.”
Also to be heard is “Ave Maria” by Franz Schubert, “Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet” and a medley of revival swing tunes entitled “Jump Swing Fever” that includes “Jump, Jive and Wail” “Zoot Suit Riot” and “It Don’t Mean a Thing if It Ain’t Got That Swing.”
There will be a novelty piece, “The Toy Trumpet” and marches by John Philip Sousa “The Diplomat” and his contemporary Edwin Franko Goldman, “Bugles and Drums.”
Also scheduled is a medley from the opera “Carmen” by Georges Bizet.
The public is invited to attend this free concert and enjoy the beautiful Oswego lakeshore and sunset.
