Constellation NMP Employees Aid Oswego County Opportunities SAF Program

Employees of Constellation’s Nine Mile Point (NMP) Clean Energy Center’s Chapter of Women in Nuclear (WIN) presented Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) Services to Aid Families (SAF) program with a generous donation of items for those that access the program’s services. SAF provides crisis support, advocacy, and emergency housing for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Pictured above, with just a sampling of the donations, kneeling in front are SAF Coordinator Sara Carmichael and Mira Davis of Constellation. Standing from left are OCO Deputy Executive Director Kevin Slimmer, and Constellation Employees Melissa Syrell, Gwen Vant, Tom Abelgore, Laura Woodward, and Terri Proud.

OSWEGO – Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) Services to Aid Families (SAF) program, the sole domestic violence and rape crisis provider for Oswego County, offers both residential and non-residential services to victims and survivors. The support that SAF provides to women and children affected by domestic violence served as an inspiration to employees of Constellation Nine Mile Point Clean Energy Center.

As part of its community outreach initiative, Nine Mile Point Chapter of Women in Nuclear (WIN) chose to support OCO’s SAF program.

“Nine Mile Point Clean Energy Station’s Women in Nuclear (WIN) are proud to support the mission of Oswego County Opportunities Services to Aid Families program, said Melissa Syrell

The items donated by Constellation Nine Mile Point Clean Energy Center employees will be available to the hundreds of women and children that access services through SAF.

“I was overwhelmed with the amount of donations we received,” said SAF Coordinator Sara Carmichael. “Last year we provided services to 627 survivors, answered nearly 4,000 hotline calls from those survivors, and provided more than 3,200 bed nights to 101 individuals and children at our domestic violence shelter. The generous donations from Constellation Nine Mile Point Clean Energy Center’s employees will go long a way in helping to meet the needs of those we serve.”

Carmichael added that the donations included much needed items such as clothing, hygiene products, and household items such as pots, pans, bedding and more which are needed for women and children exiting the SAF program and restarting their lives.

If you or someone you know is a victim or survivor of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual violence, or stalking, please call SAF’s Crisis Hotline at (315) 342-1600. The hotline is available 24 hours a day and is free and confidential. SAF is the domestic violence and rape crisis program for Oswego County and has provided crisis, supportive, advocacy and educational services throughout Oswego County for more than 40 years.
