OSWEGO COUNTY – Lee Walker and Vona’s restaurant are collaborating to give away groceries to Oswego residents. They plan to give away 250 bags on Sunday, the 13th, from 2 PM until all food is gone.
“We’re hoping for a big success to help people out, give people a hand, help feed people,” said Walker.
Bags will include:
- A loaf of bread
- Mac n Cheese
- Peanut Butter
- Jelly
- Ramen Noodles Soup
- Cereal
- Pound of Spaghetti
- Jar of pasta sauce
This is the 2nd giveaway that Walker and Vona are doing. They initially did a milk giveaway next year, but wanted to expand this year.
“Cost is all on my family for the most part. We did get some help from Walmart; they supplied the bags. We got spaghetti and sauce from Price Chopper,” said Walker. “Raby’s Ace Hardware also donated trucks to help us move some pallets.”
Walker said his inspiration to expand the program came from going door-to-door campaigning. “As I’m knocking on doors, I saw the daily face of people struggling, and it felt like the right thing to do,” said Walker.
