Committee member Heather Robinson of Oswego County Opportunities’ Street Outreach Services was happy to receive monetary support from Empower Federal Credit Union and welcome them as a sponsor for the event.

“The goal of Playing 4 Poverty is to bring community members together to not only raise awareness of the problem of hunger and poverty that exist in our county, but to also encourage those attending to help us address these issues through monetary or food donations. During the event we will be accepting cash donations and non-perishable food items that we will distribute to food pantries throughout Oswego County,” said Robinson.

Cheryl Welles, director of community relations at Empower Federal Credit Union, said lending their support to Playing 4 Poverty is an example of the company’s concern for the community it serves.

“Empower has three branches in Oswego County, and has supported the community in a variety of ways over the years. People helping people has always been the philosophy of the credit union movement, so Empower is happy to support efforts that do just that,” she said.

Robinson added that sponsorships at a variety of levels are available to area businesses and organizations that would like to be a part of this worthwhile community event.

“We are very appreciative of the generous donation we received from Empower Federal Credit Union.  This fun, family friendly event is a wonderful opportunity for the community to enjoy a day of music, food and fun while coming together to help improve the quality of life for others. I encourage other groups, organizations and businesses to join us in our effort to fight hunger and poverty in Oswego County,” she said.

Scheduled for Sept. 11, the third annual Playing 4 Poverty will be held at the Bull Head Point Pavilion from 3 to 9 p.m.
