On October 19 Diana Nightingale, Chief Development Officer, was the guest speaker at the Oswego Rotary Club’s weekly meeting. David’s Refuge, an organization whose purpose is to provide respite and other support to caregivers of children with disabilities in New York State, will hold a retreat for caregivers in Oswego in November.

Support for caregivers is an important need. According to AARP’s 2025 Caregiving in the US Research Report, 25% of adults in the United States, including more than 4 million New Yorkers, are caregivers. In our nation 59 million family caregivers provide 49.5 billion hours of care to their loved ones each year. Nearly half of these report symptoms of depression, anxiety and chronic stress.

Last year David’s Refuge held a two-day Caregiver Renewal Retreat in Oswego. Welcome bags for participants were provided by the Oswego Rotary Club. They included information about our city and gift items donated by local businesses. Another retreat is planned for November 12 and 13.

The Oswego Rotary Club meets weekly, and its members are always interested in learning about issues in the community. The club may be reached by emailing [email protected] or through their Facebook page facebook.com/oswegorotary.
