Discover Your Path to ‘Living Well’ This Fall

OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Health Department offers two free classes as part of its “Living Well” workshop series this fall.

The first class, “Healthy Living: Pathways to Positive Change” runs from 1 to 2 p.m. every Tuesday from Sept. 15 to Oct. 20 at the Mexico Public Library, 3269 Main St.

In these sessions, participants will learn about managing chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, arthritis or asthma. Topics include coping with fatigue, pain and stress; nutrition and healthy eating habits; communicating with family and health care providers; setting realistic goals and tracking progress; exercise for flexibility and endurance; making decisions, solving problems and taking actions to manage daily challenges; and building confidence to make informed health decisions. Participants of this class will also receive a free copy of “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions.”

The second class is “Living Well with Diabetes: Pathways to Control Your Blood Sugar.” It runs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. every Tuesday from Oct. 27 through Dec. 1. This is a virtual workshop hosted on the Microsoft Teams app.

These sessions teach individuals and caregivers living with or impacted by Type 2 diabetes how to manage the symptoms of the disease and its treatment. Workshop topics include blood sugar control techniques; healthy eating and medication use; exercise for strength and endurance; action planning, problem solving and decision making for daily diabetes management; monitoring and adjusting lifestyle behaviors; preventing complications through proactive self-care; and more. Participants will receive a free copy of “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions.”
