Dr. Margaret Sennett Joins OCO Medical Staff

OSWEGO, NY – Senior director of Oswego County Opportunities’ Health and Nutrition Department, Ellen Holst has announced that Dr. Margaret Sennett has joined the medical staff at OCO’s Oswego Health Center.

A native of Marcellus, Sennett received her Bachelors Degree from Cornell University, her Medical Degree from the SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, and served her residency at a joint program between Yale and Greenwich Hospital.

She returns to her Central New York roots from Greenwich, Conn., where she spent the last 28 years as a principal partner of the Greenwich Medical Group.

Sennett, whose specialty is internal medicine, provides health care for adults at OCO’s Oswego Health Center.

She is happy to be back in Central New York and is enjoying her practice at OCO.

“The timing was right,” said Sennett. “I wanted to come back and be closer to my family and the opportunity to practice at OCO’s Health Center was very appealing. I appreciate OCO’s mission of wanting everyone to have access to medical care regardless of insurance or his or her ability to pay. OCO’s desire to get health care to everyone creates a good spirit throughout the health division. They are truly committed to getting medical care to people and people to medical care.”

Sennett also acknowledged the impact that OCO’s health centers have on the community it serves.

“It’s important that people understand and appreciate the work that OCO’s Health Centers in Oswego and Fulton, and the specialists that support our efforts, accomplish. Without these primary clinics there would be nowhere for the uninsured and underinsured people to go for maintenance care and when they feel ill. The availability of these health centers is huge and I am proud to be a part of it,” she said.

Sennett, who knew that being a doctor was the perfect profession for her, enjoys the daily challenges she faces and the opportunity to meet and get to know so many different people.

“The constant need for continuing education that allows you to expand your skills is very appealing to me. No matter how much you know, there is always more that you can learn,” she said.

At OCO’s Oswego Health Center Sennett sees a wide array of patients from a variety of social and economic backgrounds.

“I’m impressed by the fact that OCO’s Health Center is much more than a charity clinic,” she said. “We have patients from virtually every social and economic level in Oswego County, from those who are disabled or uninsured to fully insured professionals. It is a far more varied client base that I had imagined. However the practice of medicine is the same regardless. You define a problem and you seek a solution. Every little problem you solve makes people’s lives a little better. The whole issue of someone’s health care is finding little problems and fixing them. When I ask myself why would someone choose our health center rather than a visit to a private physician the answer is simple. The staff here do a really great job. It has a well trained staff, it has superb administration, it is a very professionally run organization, and my colleagues are of the highest quality,” said Sennett.

OCO health centers participate with most commercial health insurances, making the services offered at the centers available to all those looking for quality health care from skilled, medical professionals.

Some services are offered at a sliding fee scale, making them affordable to most individuals.

In addition, OCO’s Facilitated Enrollment program can help families and individuals apply to receive the medical insurance they need and OCO’s Family Planning Benefits Program allows eligible enrollees to receive 100% coverage for women’s health services.

OCO’s Oswego Health Center, located at 10 George St., is open Mondays from 8:30 a.m. – 7 p.m., Tuesdays, Thursday and Fridays from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and alternating Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
