Dynegy Supports Reading With $2,500 Grant to Minetto School

MINETTO, NY – The Minetto Elementary School Library collection has grown as the result of a generous donation by Dynegy.

Dynegy employees at Independence Station recently donated $2,500 in new books for the Minetto School Library.

To complete the Minetto School Library Book Expansion Project volunteers from Girl Scout troops 391 and 990 helped to prepare the books for stocking on the shelves as the school prepares for the upcoming school year.

The books donated by Dynegy to the Minetto Elementary School Library were affixed with labels recognizing the contribution. Helping prepare the books are Rachel Godden, Laura Godden, Emily Lloyd and Jessica Godden as Rob Godden and Minetto librarian Gina Iorio look on.

Robert Godden, a maintenance technician at Dynegy, said, “We are proud to help add to and improve the condition of the reading and educational material available to the Minetto School students for research and educational purposes.”

Godden noted that this company-wide effort entitled, “Education and Youth Program,” was an opportunity to do something for the community.

He said, “My daughter likes to read so I thought ‘why not try to get us some new books?’ and the effort paid off for Minetto’s students.”

Librarian Gina Iorio was heavily involved in the effort and Godden noted that he met with her to pick out the books that would be purchased through the grant.

Some publications were replacements for worn out copies while others were new to the library.

The project is very close to Godden’s heart as he noted, “I went to Minetto School and I am a Minetto parent.”

The project was made possible through Dynegy’s “Education and Youth Program,” which empowers the company’s employees throughout the United States to identify and lead volunteer projects benefiting educationally-related non-profit organizations.

Dynegy Inc. produces and sells electric energy, capacity and ancillary services in key U.S. markets.

The company’s power generation portfolio consists of approximately 19,000 megawatts of base load, intermediate and peaking power plans fueled by a mix of coal, fuel oil and natural gas.

Iorio said, “This donation is going to help our library immensely as we are going to get more books that we need and it is going to help support the curriculum. This donation is great and I really appreciate all that Dynegy and Mr. Godden have done for us.”
