PHOENIX, NY – Jeff Horner, a Boy Scout from Troop 750 Phoenix, working towards his Eagle Badge requirements, obtained the lumber, through donations and built three benches, for Great Bear Springs Recreation Area.

This past Saturday, Horner with several other scouts installed the benches at Great Bear. People can relax at the bench locations along the trails, enjoying the natural wooded views.

In addition, to help preserve local canal history, Horner organized a work crew to clear and clean up overgrown brush and a fallen tree, at the foundations of the lock keeper’s home and mule barn, that operated the historical guard lock at Great Bear.

Jeff Horner tests out his bench, installed on the Drumlins Trail.
