OSWEGO COUNTY – Students in grades 5-8 at Emerson J. Dillon Middle School came together for friendly competition, school spirit and teamwork during the annual Dillon Way Kickoff Assembly, according to a news release provided by the Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation.

The gymnasium hosted relay races, doughnut-eating contests and other competitions that encouraged students to work together, support their classmates and represent their grade levels.

The celebration began with a ceremony led by members of the EJD Student Council, who participated in the ceremonial lighting of the Firebird at the top of the gym. The tradition set the tone for a day centered on school pride, unity and the values that define the Dillon Way.

Throughout the event, students cheered on their peers and demonstrated collaboration, sportsmanship and positive school culture. The release described the annual event as a favorite EJD tradition celebrating the school community and the importance of coming together as Firebirds.
