Enjoy Festive Holiday Events Around Oswego County This Weekend

OSWEGO COUNTY The holiday season continues to bring fun events for people of all ages across Oswego County. From craft fairs to themed performances, enjoy family fun this weekend.

Lively Performances:

Bring the whole family out for a festive performance! The CNY Community Arts Center presents “Babes in Toyland,” an adaptation of the holiday classic. Performances begin at 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, Dec. 8 and 9, and Dec. 15 and 16, with 2 p.m. matinee shows on Sundays, Dec. 10 and 17. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for youth and seniors, and free for those aged 5 and under. The CNY Community Arts Center is located at 121 Cayuga St., Fulton. Theater lovers can also attend a performance of “A Christmas Carol” by the Oswego Players. Performances will be held on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students. Join the Fulton Community Band for its annual Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. The free concert features several new arrangements, and the Roamin’ Catholic Choir will be singing as well. Holiday Shopping:

Shop local at the Holiday Craft and Vendor Fair in Volney on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Items available include crafts, jewelry, home décor, clothes, raffle baskets and more. The event takes place at Volney Elementary School, 2592 NYS Rte. 3, Fulton.

Holiday shoppers and cookie lovers can also visit the Christmas “Nu-2-U” and Cookie Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Oswego Trinity United Methodist Church located at 45 E. Utica St. There will be gently used toys and holiday decorations for sale, as well as homemade cookies by the pound. For more information, call 315-343-1715.

The Minetto Volunteer Fire Department also hosts a craft show on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring vendors, food and drinks, raffle baskets and a visit from Santa. The Minetto Volunteer Fire Department is located at 12 Barrett Dr.

Head to SUNY Oswego for its Holiday Craft and Vendor Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 in the Swetman Gymnasium, located inside Marano Campus Center. More than 50 vendors will be in attendance and hourly door prizes, hot cocoa, music and a raffle will be offered. Marano Campus Center is located at 109 Campus Center, Oswego.

Shoppers can check out another holiday sale hosted by the Art Association of Oswego (AAO), where many unique gifts are made by local artists. The sale takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, Dec. 9 and 10, and Dec. 16 and 17 at the AAO gallery, 20 Barbara Donahue Dr., Oswego. Animal lovers will want to go to the Oswego County SPCA’s “Howliday” Silent Auction on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Items in the auction include jewelry, gift cards to local businesses, movie tickets and more. Photos with Santa for pets and children will also be offered, along with raffles, a bake sale and a meet-and-greet with adoptable animals. The thrift store will also be open, where new and gently used holiday items will be available for sale. All proceeds benefit the SPCA’s emergency medical fund. Festive Treats:

Those with a sweet tooth can browse cookie confections for sale at the Cookie Walk on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The annual bake sale offers a variety of homemade cookies available for purchase by the pound at the First United Methodist Church of Phoenix, located at 49 Jefferson St. For more information, call 315-695-4746.

On Sunday, Dec. 10, start the day off with a festive pancake breakfast! Malone’s Irish Hideaway offers a breakfast with Santa from 8 to 11 a.m., with Santa arriving at 8:30 a.m. The menu includes pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon and sausage and more. The Caughdenoy Volunteer Fire Department also hosts a breakfast with Santa on Sunday, Dec. 10. From 8 a.m. to noon, bring the kids to the fire station, 48 Prospect St., Central Square to meet the head elf himself! For details, call 315-668-3551.

At 9 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10, the Phoenix Band and Color Guard Boosters host a breakfast with the Grinch until noon (or sold out) at the Phoenix Fire Department, 457 Main St. Crafts and a photo with the Grinch will be offered. For more information, call 315-695-6433.

More Family Fun

The Palermo United Methodist Church hosts its 10th Annual Christmas in Palermo on Sunday, Dec. 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Activities include a cookie and candy shop, a crafters and vendors fair, a kid’s Christmas shop, a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, crafts, reindeer games, hot chocolate, face painting, a free chili meal and more. Welcome Santa and Mrs. Claus to Oswego during the H. Lee White Maritime Museum’s Christmas at Sea Open House! The event takes place on Sunday, Dec. 10 from 1 to 4 p.m., with Santa arriving by U.S. Coast Guard boat at 2 p.m. Visitors can also enjoy crafts, storytelling, refreshments and a model train display. Extend your holiday cheer into the following week by stopping by La Parilla on the Water on Monday, Dec. 11 from 4 to 10 p.m. for its second annual Toys for Tots event! The family-friendly event includes live music, snacks, face painting, appearances from Santa and the Grinch and more. Various raffle prizes will be offered, and local chefs will be auctioned off for a private dinner party at the winner’s home. Attendees are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy for school-aged children or pay a $10 admission fee. All toys collected will go to families in need in Oswego County.
