Entergy Sponsors ‘Run for the Kids’ May 13

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego YMCA announces 2011 Strong Kids Campaign goal of $30,000, a fundraising effort to increase support for the Oswego Y’s scholarship fund.

Proceeds from the Strong Kids Campaign will fund scholarships that allow children and families who otherwise may not be able to, to benefit from family strengthening YMCA programs such as child care, day camp and programs for at-risk youth.

“We are proud to be able to meet the growing needs of our community by providing financial assistance for individuals and families who want and need YMCA programs but may not otherwise be able to afford them,” Deana Masuicca, executive director. “Our goal is to raise $30,000.00 to provide scholarships for children and families from all income levels to participate in YMCA programs.”

At the heart of community life in Oswego is the mission-driven YMCA is “a place to belong” and to live the values that guide and unite our members: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. The YMCA provides a special opportunity for kids and adults to join life-changing and life-saving programs such as day camp, child care, youth sports, water safety, before and afterschool care, and summer camp.

“Children and families in our community need and deserve the family-oriented programs and services the Oswego Y can provide,” said Jackie Sheffield, financial development director “Few things are more important than a healthy lifestyle, strong community, positive role models and quality time spent together as a family. This is a critical campaign for the future of our community, and I am honored to be involved.”

As a leading nonprofit for strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y helps families build healthier lifestyles and create stronger bonds through active play, fun activities and shared experiences.

The culmination of this years’ Strong Kids Campaign will be Entergy’s “Run for the Kids” Event, held Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Oswego Middle School on Fitzgibbons Drive in Oswego.

The run/walk event starts at 6:15pm with either a 5K walk 5K/10K run. Registration is open now and the cost is $25.

Again this year we will also have a Kids Fun Run beginning at 5:45pm. Distances for kids are ¼ mile, ½ mile or 1mile run.

Registration is $5 for kids. Join us after the event for music, air hop, facepainting & a family BBQ. Additional sponsors for this event are U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion- Oswego and Price Chopper.
