
OSWEGO, NY – Eighty-four humans and 44 dogs braved the cold and wind on October 19 to attend “Every Dog Has Its Day,” the Oswego County Humane Society’s 5K-run/walk and 1-mile family walk at Fallbrook Recreation Center.
“In spite of the weather, everyone had fun celebrating the special bond between people and pets and we are grateful to the business community for its support of this event,” said Jo Piersma, one of the event co-chairs.

Dog watering, T-shirt and prize sponsors for the event included Black Cat Dog Designs, Burke’s Home Center, Canale’s Restaurant, Carrie’s Corner, the Country Cabin, Dogs Among Us, Fruit Valley Veterinary Clinic, Fulton Savings Bank, Furdi’s Homes, J&A Mechanical, JP Jewelers, King’s Rubbish Removal, K-9 Grooming & Pet Motel, the Mexico Veterinary Hospital, Mimi’s Drive-in, NBT Bank, North Country Veterinary Service, Pathfinder Bank, Paw Power Pet Supply, Ray’s Furniture Perk, the Red Brick Pub, Sallye Ander Soaps, the Shanley Law Offices, Tame the Wild Grooming and Zink Shirts.
Winners of the 5K run were First Place Male, Frank Salvadore and First Place dog, Duncan with a time of 19:10, First Place Female, Renee Affinati, with a time of 21:54 , and First Place Youth, Ben York, with a time of 19:01.
“We think that every person who came out and every person who helped us raise funds for the Humane Society is also a winner,” said Kristin Shanley, one of the event co-chairs. “We raised more than $7,000 to use for our programs and we made 44 dogs very happy. What could be better than that?”
