Miss Bradshaw brought her concerns to the Oswego County Legislature in September, when she spoke about the need for a homeless shelter in the county. She has vowed to be the face and the voice of homeless people, and has been meeting with government, school and community leaders to shine a light on this crisis.

“We are very excited to have Emily serve as our honorary chairperson for this year’s event, the ‘Lucky 13’ Bowl-A-Fun,” said Diane Cooper-Currier, executive director of Oswego County Opportunities. “The event takes place on April 13, at Lakeview Lanes in Fulton. Emily has increased awareness about the growing problem of homelessness and the need for a shelter in Oswego County. She has truly given a face and a voice to homelessness. She speaks from her heart and challenges all of us to take action.”

Funds raised at the “Lucky 13” Bowl-A-Fun will benefit OCO’s services and programs that help the county’s homeless. In addition, a percentage of the proceeds will be set aside to build financial resources for the future.

“A homeless shelter is desperately needed. There are hundreds of homeless people in the Oswego area alone,” Cooper-Currier said.

The Bowl-A-Fun takes place from noon – 6 p.m.

Registration opens Feb. 1 for five-person teams, with choice of flights: noon – 2:30 p.m. or 3 – 5:30 p.m. (first come, first served).

Businesses and individuals are invited to donate door prizes for the raffles and silent auction, and major sponsors are being solicited as well.

“This year’s event was dubbed the “Lucky 13” Bowl-A-Fun because it is taking place on April 13th, 2013,” Cooper-Currier said. “There will be many games and raffles, a silent auction, turkey contest, and more. A special raffle will be held for three grand prizes. Those tickets go on sale Feb. 13; call the OCO main office at 598-4717 for details.”
