Fairgrieve Elementary sixth graders blasted rockets into the air after having learned about Newton’s three laws of motion.

Teachers Rick Bush, John Mercer and Kerrie Standard-Phillips assisted students by connecting cables to the homemade rockets just before liftoff.
Each student got to push a button which released the cable and set the rockets soaring into the air.
Prior to the launch, all sixth graders spent time studying Newton’s three laws of motion and how it is applied to rocket science.
Students also were able to identify rocker parts: engine mounts, fins, igniter, body tube, and launch lug.
The science lesson also was combined with English Language Arts, as the sixth graders had to collect data and information to be used in a rocket launch news article.
