HANNIBAL – As the winter Olympics got under way in PyeongChang, South Korea, students in the Hannibal Central School District were hosting their own opening ceremony for the games.

Teachers in the specialty areas of art, music and physical education collaborated for an educational celebration at Fairley Elementary School.
Students learned about the cultures and traditions of the host country, they participated in physical activities, they sang patriotic songs and created artwork and posters representing America.
According to physical education teacher Lynn Halliwell, the Olympic kickoff celebration provides students with a unique learning experience while infusing some fun and excitement into the lesson.
