Teachers, parents and students within the Fulton City School District recently gathered as part of a series of events throughout the school year to boost parent engagement to further their child’s education.

As part of funding through the Strengthening Teacher and Leader Effectiveness Grant, the district held a Family Academy session, which gave parents the opportunity to learn how to help their child with writing and math, while students were able to enjoying games, crafts and refreshments.
Parents learned what the academic expectations are for their children and how they can become more engaged in their child’s education.
An elaborate presentation and an open forum discussion were all part of the session. Meanwhile, students had a blast making crafts, playing board games, reading and grabbing a quick snack.
Dozens of students gathered in the gym to enjoy the night.
The next scheduled Family Academy night is November 13, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Education Center.
The topic of the session will be standard based progress reports, and will be for parents only.
