February Programming At Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center Announced

Visitors enjoy snowshoeing through the woods at the Amboy Environmental Education Center.

AMBOY, NY – The Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center will be presenting several fun and educational programs throughout the month of February.

The first of their Sunday Nature Programs, Plants in Winter, will take place on Sunday, February 6 at 2 p.m. Participants will discover what happens to plants in the winter during a guided nature hike, after a brief indoor presentation.

On Sunday, February 13 at 2 p.m., the second Sunday Nature Program, The Subnivean World, will reveal to participants what goes on under the snow. Following an indoor presentation, attendees will be led on snowshoe over the Center’s many trails to explore the topic first-hand.

On Tuesday, February 22, the Center will offer two programs. Participants can learn to be a Chef for Birds from 2 to 3 p.m. at this indoor youth-friendly program. Attendees will learn what birds like to eat and make a birdseed treat to take home for their backyard or neighborhood birds. Later that evening, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., attendees will enjoy the Winter Woods at Night, with a guided hike on snowshoes.

Attendees can learn All About Snow on Wednesday, February 23 at 10 a.m. During this youth-friendly program, participants will explore the science of snow with simple experiments and crafts, and enjoy a snowshoe walk through the woodlands with an environmental educator.

Snowshoes will be available for outdoor programs. Attendees are reminded to dress warmly and in layers. Outdoor footwear that can be strapped into a snowshoe should be worn — sneakers and fashion boots with heels do not fit into the straps and will make walking difficult. If there is a scarcity of snow, attendees will enjoy a winter boot walk.

The fees for these programs are only $4 per person up to $12 per family. Children under the age of 3 are free.

Payment will be collected at the door in the form of cash or check only. Pre-registration is requested. More information and registration can be found at http://thatscooperativeextension.org/events. If you need assistance or more information, please contact Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County at 315-963-7286.

While these programs are designed for families, individuals are invited and encouraged attend. We ask that all safety measures consistent with New York State’s implementation of the most recent CDC COVID-19 guidance are followed.
