OSWEGO, NY – Lisa Kanbur, a sixth grade student at Leighton Elementary School, and Andrew Nicolias, a student at Onondaga Hill Middle School, Westhill School District, Syracuse, were recently named semi-finalists in the Cassini Scientist for a Day online essay contest.
The contest, sponsored by the NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, required the students to pick one of three possible “targets” for study pertaining to Saturn, and write a brief essay to explain their choice.
Laurel Artz, sixth grade science teacher at FLS, said, “I am extremely proud of Lisa and Andrew’s achievement and their initiative in entering the contest. While I was happy to assist with the entry process, they really did all the work on their own and I am so pleased they are being recognized for their efforts.”
