ForeSight Golf Tournament To Raise Funds For Aurora

SYRACUSE, NY – The 14th annual ForeSight Golf Classic, to be held Sept. 13 at Foxfire at Village Green in Baldwinsville, will raise funds for Aurora of CNY.

Aurora of CNY is the only non-profit that works exclusively with people in Central New York who are deaf, blind, visually impaired or hard of hearing.

This year, the tournament will have honorary chairs for the first time.

This honor has been given to John, Barb and Erin Scala of Baldwinsville.

John Scala founded ForeSIGHT shortly after his and Barb’s daughter, Erin, was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa.

Erin Scala, 24, received her degree in public justice from SUNY Oswego in May.

Why a golf tournament?

“We started an affiliate here in Syracuse for The Foundation Fighting Blindness to assist with raising funds and awareness for retinal eye disease research. The FFB would encourage us and all their affiliates to do some fundraising projects. Golf tournaments were always on the top of the list since, in most cases, they would return some good monies for research,” John Scala explained.

He continued, “Finally, about 1997, with the assistance of a very good friend, Lance Lindner, who is a former local golf pro, we began the ForeSight Golf Classic. After a period of years affiliated with the FFB and a local research hospital we decided to partner with Aurora.”

Seneca Data is the tournament’s presenting sponsor, with Anaren, Inc., Blue Ocean Strategies and Fust Charles Chambers joining them as first-time sponsors.

Outback Steakhouse will cater dinner at Foxfire’s Pucello’s restaurant for the golfers.

The tournament’s format is captain and crew and the cost per person is $120.

All proceeds will go to Aurora, a United Way agency of Central New York and Oswego and Cayuga counties.
