FPS Sixth Graders Advance To OMS

OSWEGO, NY – The sixth graders of the Fitzhugh Park Elementary School celebrated their final days at the east side school with the annual recognition ceremony.

Principal Donna Simmons noted, “We congratulate our students and wish them good luck as they move on.”

Simmons shared stories about “Life’s Good” and read a poem to encourage the youngsters to remain focused as they continue their educational journey.

The highlight of the afternoon came as each student received their certificate in recognition of their accomplishments.

However, there were several special awards that were also presented.

Kelly Skinner received the New York State Comptroller Award while the “Triple C Awards” signifying character, courage and commitment were presented to Sara DelBrocco and Amber Cavellier.

Once again the Rose Izzo Writing Award was presented to a Fitzhugh Park Elementary School sixth grader.

The award, introduced several years ago by the Izzo family, is presented to one outstanding writer among the FPS sixth graders.

This year, Kelly Skinner was the recipient as Yolanda Izzo-Breitbeck and the great-granddaughter of Mrs. Izzo, Samantha Falcetti, presented a $200 savings bond and a plaque.

Two other outstanding young writers, Timothy Woodard and Mark Forger, were recognized and each received a $50 gift certificate to river’s end book store.

Several other sixth grade students were recognized for their qualifying for the Presidential Academic Awards.

Earning “gold” status were Christan Cabanlig, Michaela Callen, Kelly Skinner, Kyle Bardin, Jacob Boni, Amber Cavellier, Christian Davis, Timothy Woodard, Jordan Crapser, Connar Dryden, mark Forger and James Jaskula.

Receiving “silver” certificates for their outstanding academic efforts in the classroom were Clifford Bough, Zachary Carapetyan, Diana Lazzaro, Nathaniel Sanaker, Eric Yurkon, Peter Griffin, Audrey Standish, Jenna Roth, Brooke Farnsworth, Lillian Distin, Katie Carroll, Sara Delbrocco, Britteny Dopp, Ashton Flint, Alexis Haynes, Joshua Hill, Robert Holt, Matthew Morrison, Candice Payne and Carlie Smith.

Congratulating this year’s sixth graders were their teachers Carol Carol, Ed Fayette and Tom Gibbons.

This year’s sixth graders who are now bound for Oswego Middle School include Clifford Bough, Alexes Butler, Christan Cabanlig, Michaela Callen, Zachary Carapetyan, Collin Dryden, Jesse Forbes, Ryan Gunther, Teressa Gunther, Diana Lazzaro, Jonathan Parkhurst, Ashley Richmond, Paige Russ, Nathaniel Sanaker, Kelly Skinner, Hayley Still, Zachary Wood and Eric Yurkon.

Also moving to seventh grade are Kyle Bardin, Jacob Boni, Christopher Briglin, Amber Cavellier, Shannon Darrrah, Christian Davis, Lillian Distin, Brooke Farnsworth, Peter Griffin, Latosha Pitcher, Shane Prior, Jenna Roth, Brianna Rourke, Kiana Senke, Nathaniel Smith, Audrey Standish, Matthew Weller and Timothy Woodard.

Also moving on are Katie Carroll, Jordan Crapser, Sara Delbrocco, Britteny Dopp, Connar Dryden, Jade Estro, Ashton Flint, Mark Forger, Jesse Fragale, Alexis Haynes, Joshua Hill, Robert Holt, James Jaskula, Lawrence LiCourt,  Matthew Morrison, Candice Payne, Carlie Smith, Cirilo Valentin and Rachael Wideman.
