OSWEGO, NY – Fitzhugh Park School Third Graders had their first writing celebration recently.
Their writing lessons follow the Lucy Calkins Units of Study.
Each lesson consists of a mini-lesson and teaching point, active engagement, writing and conferencing, and an opportunity to share.
Students have worked on a variety of personal narratives about people, places, or objects of importance to them.
With the support of literacy specialists Mrs. Brancato and Mrs. Wilder, students went through a series of peer and teacher conferences, revisions, and word processing the final product.
The next step was to illustrate their stories.
On the day of the celebration, students of Mrs. Roland and Mrs. DeForge broke up into groups and read their stories to faculty and staff members.
To top off the celebration, the students shared donuts, drinks, and conversation about their finished pieces.
