OSWEGO, NY – The Friends Of Hospice In Oswego County, (FOHOC), is scheduling free grief support “healing circle” movie events for children ages five – 18 starting next month, said Elena Twiss, FOHOC executive director.
“This new program features a movie, lunch, popcorn and a healing circle with a licensed mental health professional. Twiss said. “The aim is to expand the reach of grief support throughout the year, not just during our annual FOHOC Camp Waves of Hope summer camp at Camp Hollis.”
Ashley Lawton, a licensed mental health counselor, will lead and facilitate the healing circle at these events, Twiss said. “She has created interventions or activities to follow the themes of these movies to help the children who attend gain tools that will ultimately help them with their grief.”
The first Camp Waves Movie day will screen “IF” and is scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Feb. 8 at Camp Hollis, 40 Health Camp Rd., Oswego, and is open to children aged 12 to 18. The second will screen “Inside/Out” and be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., March 1 at Catholic Charities of Oswego County, 808 W. Broadway, Fulton, for ages five to 18. The final event will screen “The Lion King” and be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27 at the Kallet Theater, 4842 Jefferson St., Pulaski, for ages five to 18.

Friends of Hospice in Oswego County is a volunteer organization that provides financial and non-medical support to individuals, caregivers, friends and families during the end-of-life journey and supports them following their loss.
