FULTON – August 5, 2026 — The Friends of the Fulton Public Library are asking community members to help tell the story of Fulton’s historic Carnegie library by sharing their photographs, stories, and favorite library memories.
The new community campaign, “The Stories Within Our Story,” is being launched in preparation for the 2026 Friends of the Fulton Public Library Anniversary Gala, which will celebrate 120 years of stories, community, and connection on Friday, October 16, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. inside the Fulton Public Library.
“For 120 years, this building has been quietly collecting the stories of the people who have walked through its doors,” said Angela Dwyer, President of the Friends of the Fulton Public Library. “We don’t want to tell its history only through documents and old newspaper clippings. We want to tell it through the people who loved it. A first library card, a favorite librarian, afternoons spent in the stacks – those memories may feel small, but together they are the real story of our library.”
Submitted photographs and memories may be considered for inclusion in the gala, historical displays, the Friends’ website, and other materials celebrating the library’s first 120 years.
The anniversary gala will invite guests to travel through the decades of the library’s history with food, drinks, music, photographs, and community stories woven throughout the building. The Friends describe the event as a strolling celebration designed to honor the library’s past while helping support its future.
“We are planning a truly spectacular evening, but before we can travel through the library’s history, we need our community’s help remembering it,” Angela said. “Really, the story of this building, this library is the memories of the people it serves.”
Community members can share a memory, submit photographs, and learn more at their website www.fofpl.org.
Tickets for the anniversary gala will go on sale beginning August 16, 2026. Sponsorship opportunities are currently available.
