Front Bottoms to headline SUNY Oswego indie show

OSWEGO — Up-and-coming band the Front Bottoms will headline an Indie Series concert Nov. 16, in the Hewitt Union lounge at SUNY Oswego.

Larcenist and SUNY Oswego junior singer-songwriter Connor Thuotte will complete the bill in the 7 p.m. Indie Series concert presented by the college’s Artswego program and campus radio station WNYO-FM.

The Front Bottoms punk-pop band will appear at 7 p.m. Nov. 16 in Hewitt Union as part of SUNY Oswego's Indie Series in a concert that also features Larcenist and singer-songwriter Connor Thuotte, a SUNY Oswego junior.

Formed in 2006, the Front Bottoms are a two-piece New Jersey acoustic duo reflecting punk and pop influences. According to Todd Martens in the Los Angeles Times’ Pop & Hiss music blog, each Front Bottoms song is “packed with words and spiked with humor” and fits into “a long line of emotional over-shares amongst the punk community.”

The nationally touring group likely will perform songs from its most recent album, “The Front Bottoms,” which contains material from the “Slow Dance to Soft Rock” and “Grip ‘n’ Tie” EPs. Brian Sella on vocals and guitar and Matt Uychich on drums have been making music since they were 10 and 8 years old, respectively.

For the SUNY Oswego show, they plan to add a third member, Drew Villafuerte on bass and keys.

Ted Winkworth, of SUNY Oswego’s LifeStyles Center and director of the Indie Series, said the indie world believes the Front Bottoms are poised to attract even more attention in the next couple of years. “We want to see them in a small room now before they outgrow what we can provide,” Winkworth said. “You get an experience that way.”

Larcenist, featuring members from Upstate New York, offers a combination of post-punk, folk, Americana and rock. Thuotte, of Liverpool, a cinema and screen studies major with a minor in audio production, has produced acoustic pop and surf albums “Caught Between Summers” and “Sunblind,” and is working on a third.

Tickets priced at $10 ($8 for SUNY Oswego faculty and staff; $5 for SUNY Oswego students) are available at all SUNY box offices, online at http://tickets.oswego.edu and by phone at 315-312-2141. missing or outdated ad config
