Students from the four elementary schools in the Fulton City School District competed against one another and the clock in a recent Elementary Cross Country meet held at Granby Elementary School.

Running on a course approximately one-mile long, the meet took participants across the field and into the woods to run a portion of the race on the Granby nature trail located behind the elementary school building, before ending near the playground at the school.
Four separate races were held pitting fifth grade boys, fifth grade girls, sixth grade boys and finally sixth grade girls against one another while parents and fellow students cheered the runners on to the finish line.

The race was coordinated by Physical Education teacher Gary LaGrou, and representatives from the four elementary schools were on hand to record the finishers’ names on cards which will be returned to each student participant as a memento of the event.
After crossing the finish line, each racer’s time was recorded and those times will be added to the finish cards before returning them to the students at each school.

Two other district-wide elementary contests are scheduled for the school year, including a wrestling event during the winter and a track and field meet scheduled in the spring.
