Fulton Family Video Contributes to Lymphoma Research

FULTON, NY – The Family Video movie rental store in Fulton has used spare change to raise more than $800 for Lymphoma research.

As part of the annual “Round-It-Up” campaign, Family Video customers were offered the opportunity to donate the change of every purchase, rounded to the nearest dollar, to the Lymphoma Research Foundation and the Bio Bank at the University of Chicago.

In the sixth year participating, the campaign ran for 16 days of which the Fulton Family Video store raised a total of $831.63, with each customer donation less than $1.

The Fulton location participated as part of a national fundraising campaign, of which Family Video stores across the country raised over $1 million this year with a total of more than $7.5 million raised in the seven years since the campaign began.

Before this year’s campaign, the money raised by Family Video stores across the country helped get approval of 14 new lymphoma treatment drugs and 63 research grants, according to a public relations associate of Family Video, Lauren Baca.

“I am thrilled to have participated in such a great event,” said the manager of Family Video in Fulton, Tom Loughrey.

Loughrey began his position at Family Video in the midst of last year’s campaign, so he was excited to be fully involved with this year’s campaign from the start and was awed by the amount of community support the store received, he said.

“Aside from our customers that chose to round up their purchase, we had a lot of local businesses support us such as Fajita Grill, Kathy’s Cakes, Price Chopper, and more,” he said.

The store employee’s enthusiastic approach to the fundraising campaign is a large credit to the fundraising success in Fulton.

“It was a lot of fun, everyone here really got behind it and made it a great experience. We enjoy being able to give back and thank our community for their support in doing so,” Loughrey said.

100% of the funds raised nationwide will be donated to the Lymphoma Research Foundation and the Bio Bank at the University of Chicago.

Family Video in Fulton is newly relocated at 165 S. Second Street.
