FULTON – The Fulton Family YMCA Girls Rock Program recently celebrated Women’s History Month during March, meeting every Thursday evening to discuss famous women throughout history and their impact on the world around us.

During March, Girls Rock hosted several special guests, including the Fulton Public Library and women from Novelis. Both organizations took the time to teach the group about special women, past and present. The library taught the girls about Dewmini, a young girl living in poverty in Sri Lanka, who planted crops to help her family and community access healthy foods. The girls were given their own veggies to plant and grow!

The girls also hosted several women from Novelis, who explained the areas of the company they work within and the processes they help with. The women took their time to explain each step of the aluminum-making process, and the importance of women working in STEM. They brought with them a light-up card kit for each child to make, along with a few other goodies to bring home.

The Girls Rock Program is very thankful for wonderful community partners who continuously take time to engage with their participants and are looking forward to more exciting events to come!
