Fulton Lions Prepare for Annual Labor Day Duck Derby

The Fulton Lions Club announces its 21st Annual Labor Day Duck Derby to be held on Monday, September 5, 2011 beginning at noon. Once again hundreds of ducks will be released into the Oswego River at the Canal Park Marina located behind the Tavern-on-the Lock.

The first duck across the finish line wins $2,000 cash sponsored by Medicine Place. Second place wins $500.00 cash and third place wins $200.00 sponsored by Sue Fiorini of Great Lakes Real Estate. Fourth place wins $200 cash sponsored by Gail Holmes of Divine Designs. Various prizes for the next 27 finishers as provided by a group of generous community sponsors. The last place duck receives season tickets to SU Football 2011 season sponsored by Steve Chirello Advertising.

The Duck Derby is the brain child of Lion Don Charbonneau who suggested that the Lions hold an event that would bring the community together for a day of fun and fund raising. Following Lion Charbonneau, Lion Mike Licciardello and for many years Lion Jerry Ware served as chair. This year president Jim Sokolowski has named Lion Don Labarge as chairman for his fifth year.

The Duck Derby is a family event that begins at noon with a total of 35 raffles, food, drinks and entertainment featuring music and a guest appearance by Elvis, sponsored by MetLife, Lion Michele Stanard, Financial Service Representative. In addition for the kids this year there is free bounce & play and face painting sponsored by Lion Steve Bero.

Tickets are available at Frank & Fran Badagnani’s Medicine Place, Steve Chirello’s Ad Agency, Dr. Brett Tallent’s, Mimi’s Restaurant, Divine Designs, Pathfinder Bank, Ellen Ladd Financial Services, Struppler’s Shur Fine Market and any Lion member.

As always, the Lions Club appreciates the support of the greater Fulton community and looks forward to seeing everyone on Labor Day. The money raised by the Duck Derby goes to community projects, scholarships, sight and hearing and various youth activities.
