Fulton Lions To Collect Used Eyeglasses At Oct. 4 Fulton Fall Festival

The Fulton Lions Club will have a booth and be collecting used eyeglasses at the Oct. 4 Fulton Fall Festival, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Fulton War Memorial, said club President Melissa Champion. “We will be collecting used eyeglasses for recycling, and we’ll also have family-friendly games and giveaways for anyone who visits our booth,” Champion said. Eyeglasses can be dropped off year-‘round at the Fulton Medicine Place, 360 W. First St., in a special, re-purposed mailbox. Pictured with the eyeglasses collection box are, from left: Champion, Fulton Lions Past President Zach Merry, and Fulton Lions Treasurer Susan Daratt. Both Mery and Daratt are pharmacists at the Fulton Medicine Place, and Champion is an employee there as well.

FULTON, NY –  The Fulton Lions Club will have a booth and be collecting used eyeglasses at the Oct.

Chartered in 1953, the Fulton Lions Club has been collecting used eyeglasses for recycling for over 70 years, Champion said. “Since 1925, Lions International has been a champion in helping combat vision impairment and blindness. With this same conviction, Lions have also been a force in providing medical care and education to help prevent hearing loss.”

Anyone can drop off their used eyeglasses year-‘round at the Fulton Medicine Place, Champion said. The collected glasses are sent to an official Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center for processing. There, the glasses are sorted to determine those that are usable or unusable, processed, and placed in inventory for distribution to optical missions around the world.  Lions help to minimize landfill waste by supporting precious metal reclamation and scrap processing for damaged glasses that are unusable.

The Fulton Lions Club,  known for their Lions Loot Sweepstakes, annual Charby’s Duck Derby, and Mane Event Comedy Night, provides financial assistance for those in need of eyeglasses, eye exams and hearing aids to residents in the Greater Fulton area.  For more information on the Fulton Lions Club, visit www.fultonlionsclub.com.
