With bicycling being a leading cause of youth head injuries treated in emergency rooms nationwide, it is imperative that kids wear helmets and wear them properly.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, proper helmet use has been estimated to reduce the risk of serious head injuries by 85%.

In partnership with the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and the Fulton Police Benevolent Association, the Fulton Police Department has given away an estimated 250 bicycle helmets this year to local youth as a part of their head injury prevention program, which was started in 2007.

The Fulton Police Department remains committed to traffic safety and to the youth of the Fulton community.
