The Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning continues its Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) Program on Thursday, Oct. 23. The workshop takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Fulton Municipal Building on South First Street.
“The BOA Study is designed to clean up brownfields and provide a unique opportunity for the city to reshape its economic landscape,†said David Turner, director of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning. “Properties will have the opportunity for environmental investigation, remediation, infrastructure improvements and developer incentives to create catalytic redevelopment.â€ÂÂ
A brownfield is an abandoned or under-used industrial or commercial property, such as a factory, gas station or dry cleaning establishment. Re-development of these sites can be complicated by the real or potential presence of a hazardous substance or pollutant.
The workshop is the second in a series put together through the joint efforts of Oswego County and the city of Fulton. It will identify potential brownfields, define the study area and recommend future adaptive re-use of these key properties.
All city residents and property owners are invited to attend and welcome to bring a neighbor or friend to the session.
Residents in the Fulton and Oswego areas can view the workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. by tuning in to Time Warner Cable public access channel 96.
