FULTON, NY – Fulton City School District teachers were recently re-energized to use assessments and information to empower and engage students, thanks to guest presenter Nicole Vagle.

The information was delivered to the teachers during a recent Staff Development Day where Vagle, a presenter with the professional development powerhouse of Solution Tree, encouraged FCSD teachers to pay attention to how students perceive assessments so they don’t shut down.
Students need to feel motivated to succeed, she said.
Re-focusing on classroom and learning assessments over assessments about teaching (standardized and benchmark), will help pave the way for a more balanced system.
All assessments, she said, must teach students to reflect and track progress.
Elizabeth Conners, FCSD executive director of instruction and assessment, said the idea is to put students in charge of their learning.
