Hannibal Eighth Graders Take on STEM Challenge

OSWEGO COUNTY – A morning of engineering, problem-solving and teamwork recently culminated in a fun competition for Hannibal eighth graders who participated in a STEM challenge.

The event, coordinated by Oswego County P-TECH, encouraged students to apply principles of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in a fun and engaging way. Working in teams, students were tasked with constructing a vehicle or device using cardboard and other provided materials. The objective was to design a contraption capable of carrying the weight of at least 10 Jolly Ranchers down a ramp. The team whose creation traveled the farthest distance emerged as the winner.

“This challenge was a fantastic way for students to think critically, collaborate, and apply real-world problem-solving skills,” said DMK Principal Khrystie Allen. “It’s always exciting to see their creativity come to life in such an interactive setting.”
